Designed by Whittam Cox Architects, Middlewood Locks is a vibrant canalside neighbourhood that blends high-quality homes, flexible commercial space, and carefully considered public realm to create a dynamic mixed-use urban community. Delivered in close collaboration with Scarborough Group International, Metro Holdings Limited, Salford City Council, and Homes England, the project is a key part of the wider regeneration story of Greater Manchester.
Earlier this week, we were delighted to join a site tour of the development—organised by Zerum and hosted by Nicola Wallis from Scarborough Group International. Guests had the opportunity to explore the newest part of the scheme alongside the broader masterplan, guided by Whittam Cox Architects’ Andy Dabbs, Managing Executive Director, and Petros Zintilis, Associate.
“Middlewood Locks is the result of long-term vision and truly collaborative working. It’s been incredibly rewarding to see how the masterplan has come to life—not just in the physical sense, but in the way it now supports a thriving community. Being able to share that journey and reflect on its impact with peers across the built environment is something we really value.”

The event brought together a fantastic mix of professionals from across the built environment—including planning, architecture, wayfinding, marketing, and property management—demonstrating the diverse expertise that underpins projects of this scale.
The development continues to champion sustainable, inclusive city living—helping to shape a connected, characterful place that people can live, work, and thrive in. Middlewood Locks is more than just a development; it’s a growing community with placemaking at its core.
