Whittam Cox host successful charity fundraiser

Last week, we welcomed family and friends to our offices for a special charity fundraiser. The event was organised to support Ashgate Hospice, one of our long-standing partner charities, and employees, Dave Bird, and Josh Botham’s fundraising efforts for the Great North Run which takes place on 8th September.

The day brought together colleagues, family members, and friends for a series of fun-filled activities, all aimed at raising funds for a cause close to the hearts of many at the practice. Highlights included face painting and craft activities led by talented members of the team, as well as a bake sale that saw everyone giving generously to the cause.

The event also offered a unique opportunity for children to explore the world of architecture in a hands-on way. Activities included office tours, VR experiences, and tower-building challenges, giving them a glimpse into a day in the life of architects and technologists. The presence of Ashley Bear added to the excitement, making it a memorable day for the younger ones.

The event raised £500, contributing significantly to Dave fundraising efforts. With these contributions, the fundraising total has now surpassed the initial target of £1,000, reaching nearly £1,800—a testament to the generosity of everyone who attended.

Reflecting on the day, Dave Bird expressed his thanks, “It was an amazing day, filled with warmth and generosity. I want to thank everyone who came out to support us. The cause is very close to my heart, with my wife working for Ashgate Hospicecare within the Family Bereavement Support Team following the death of our daughter in 2020. I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who made this event possible.”

Dave Storer and Annie Baldwin from the events team at Ashgate Hospice commented, “All of us at Ashgate Hospice want to say a huge thank you to Dave and Josh for taking on the Great North Run and fundraising for us, they are doing an amazing job. It’s no small feat taking on the GNR and we know they are training hard. We also want to say a massive thank you to Whittam Cox Architects for supporting Dave and Josh’s fundraising with the family fun day. It sounded like a great day and one which has really helped to boost their fundraising efforts. The practice are such a great supporter of Ashgate Hospice, and their support and generosity really does mean we can be there for the people across North Derbyshire when they need us the most”.

"Supporting Dave in his fundraising efforts was very important to us, and we had a fantastic day. It’s crucial for us to keep family involved in our work and provide opportunities for them to understand more about what we do. The event not only achieved its fundraising goals but also reinforced the importance of community, family, and the values that the practice holds dear. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make the day so special."
