Formerly known as Boswell’s, which was once the world’s second oldest family-run department store, the transformation of this iconic building into a new luxury lifestyle hotel has been a collaborative effort alongside Reef Origin (formerly Reef Group) and Urban R. Our role as Executive Architects saw us deliver a design that seamlessly merges the old with the new, paying homage to the building’s past while embracing modern luxury.
Aptly named ‘The Store,’ the hotel has 101 guest rooms and boasts amenities like a basement spa, gym, a street-level bar and restaurant, and an exclusive rooftop terrace offering stunning views of Oxford. The hotel is situated amidst Oxford University’s historic buildings. Party wall arrangements and thoughtful demolition have made way for new build elements, including a central courtyard adorned with a living wall. Sustainability has been a priority throughout, with a commitment to achieving BREEAM Excellence.
"We saw this project as a chance to honour Boswell’s history while delivering a space that reflects Oxford's vibrant spirit. We’re really proud to have played a part in this transformative journey."
