Status Complete

A stadium hotel reimagined — blending global hospitality standards with Sheffield’s proud sporting heritage.

Rooted in place

Located within Sheffield United Football Club’s historic Bramall Lane stadium, the hotel serves both matchday visitors and year-round business and leisure guests. Ahead of its re-opening, the brief was to refresh the hotel’s identity, elevate the guest experience and reposition it within the DoubleTree by Hilton brand, while remaining rooted in Sheffield.

We led the internal and external refurbishment, working closely with the club to align operational needs with a clear design vision. Across 155 guest rooms and refurbished public spaces, the design balances global hospitality standards with local character, drawing subtle inspiration from Sheffield’s steel-making heritage and the natural tones of the Peak District.

Now complete, the hotel offers a renewed sense of arrival — welcoming, distinctive and deeply connected to its city, while working seamlessly for matchday and everyday use alike.

Considered interior design

Heritage as inspiration

The refurbishment treats the hotel’s setting at Bramall Lane as a source of identity. Sheffield’s industrial legacy is referenced subtly and intelligently, allowing the building’s history to inform a contemporary hospitality experience rather than dominate it.

Steel inspired design details

Sheffield’s steelmaking heritage is woven into the interiors through metallography-inspired carpet patterns, abstracting the microscopic structures of steel into a tactile, graphic design language. This creates a quiet but distinctive local reference that rewards closer attention.

Global hospitality, rooted in place

The design balances the expectations of an international hotel brand with a strong sense of local character. Global hospitality standards sit comfortably alongside regional references, creating an experience that feels both familiar and unmistakably Sheffield.

A cohesive, layered interior narrative

A consistent design language connects guest rooms and public spaces, combining industrial cues with a warm, earthy palette influenced by the Peak District and Sheffield’s identity as ‘The Outdoor City’. The result is a cohesive environment that feels robust, welcoming and enduring.
